MID-SENIOR DESIGNER (Full-time)
Salary range: £27,000 – £33,000, dependent on experience.
Applications close: 11th June 2021
We are seeking a super talented jacket designer brimming with creativity and a clear understanding of the commercial requirements of publishing. The role requires someone capable of coming up with exciting, strong and fresh cover designs across all our imprints, so a background that includes non-fiction and fiction titles would be an advantage.
You’ll take visuals from concept through to print so a solid understanding of the print process is important. Key requirements for this role: a general enthusiasm and passion for design, illustration and image manipulation skills, multi-tasking and a strong background in concept design.
This role involves working closely with editorial, production and sales colleagues to develop and deliver impressive new cover designs. You will relish the chance to use your existing experience across a range of non-fiction and fiction titles, to shape these fast-growing lists, producing innovative ideas with outstanding international and UK commercial potential.
To be considered for this vacancy you must have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in publishing, be self-motivated, demonstrate a genuine love for book design, and show strong market awareness. You will have a passion for design, finding creative solutions, and being highly proficient in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. You will be organised, deadline-driven, and good at building strong working relationships. Confident communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to help develop some exceptional books.
This is a full-time role that will be mainly based at our Islington Offices once things reopen. We are currently working from home. The salary for this role is between £27,000 to £33,000 dependent on experience.
Candidates will be selected for interview based on their abilities and we would particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented in book publishing. Due to current restrictions, we anticipate the selection process comprising a combination of online interviews and the submission of practical tests by mail. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
To apply please send your cover email, CV and your portfolio or examples of your work to our Deputy Managing Director, Vicky Hartley, at email@example.com.
